Prof. Dr. Alper Toker

Prof. Alper Toker, M.D., is an internationally recognized thoracic surgeon and a leading authority in robotic and minimally invasive thoracic surgery. He currently serves as Director of the Robotic Thorax Surgery Program at Istanbul Florence Nightingale Hospital, bringing more than three decades of surgical, academic, and leadership experience across Europe and the United States.

Prof. Toker completed his medical education at Marmara University Faculty of Medicine in 1992 and trained in thoracic and cardiovascular surgery at Istanbul University. He went on to serve as Professor and Head of the Department of Thoracic Surgery at Istanbul University Medical Faculty, and as Thoracic Surgery Program Director within the Group Florence Nightingale Hospitals. From 2019 to 2024, he held senior academic and clinical positions in the United States as Head of the Division of Thoracic Surgery and Program Director of Tracheal Surgery at West Virginia University School of Medicine.

His clinical practice focuses on the surgical treatment of lung cancer, including locally advanced and extended resections and surgery following chemotherapy and immunotherapy, as well as the surgical management of mediastinal and thymic tumors and complex tracheal procedures. He is particularly noted for his expertise in robotic lung and thymus surgery and video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS).

A prolific contributor to the international medical literature, Prof. Toker has authored well over a hundred articles in peer-reviewed journals and has played an active role in international professional societies, including a leadership position within the European Society of Thoracic Surgeons. His work has been recognized with multiple awards from leading thoracic and cardiothoracic surgery organizations.
