Pectus Treatment, Chest Wall Surgery and Rib Contouring with the Ribella Procedure

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hasan Ersöz welcomes patients at his private practice in İzmir, focusing on thoracic surgery, pectus deformities and rib contouring. His clinical work encompasses pectus excavatum (sunken chest), pectus carinatum (pigeon chest), rib flare (outward prominence of the lower costal margins), slipping rib syndrome and structural chest wall conditions. He is the developer of the Ribella Procedure, an approach to rib contouring.

Born in Diyarbakır in 1985, he graduated from Dicle University Faculty of Medicine and completed his specialist training in thoracic surgery at Dokuz Eylül University Faculty of Medicine. Following his compulsory medical service at İzmir Tepecik Training and Research Hospital, he served as a founding faculty member and Head of the Department of Thoracic Surgery at İzmir Kâtip Çelebi University Faculty of Medicine. He was awarded the title of Associate Professor in 2020.

He has participated in international training programmes on chest wall deformities and minimally invasive thoracic surgery. His professional and academic background includes video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS), surgical treatment of pulmonary and mediastinal conditions, and chest wall reconstruction.

Pectus treatment planning considers the patient’s age, chest wall flexibility, characteristics of the deformity and associated symptoms. Options assessed for pectus excavatum include Vacuum Bell therapy and minimally invasive repair of pectus excavatum (MIRPE), also known as the Nuss procedure. For pectus carinatum, bracing and surgical options are considered. Treatment and follow-up plans are determined individually following examination and any necessary investigations.

The Ribella Procedure is a minimally invasive surgical approach designed to reshape the position and angles of the ribs. It is considered for concerns relating to skeletal waist width, rib flare and torso contour. The procedure uses ultrasound-guided percutaneous techniques to reshape the ribs without removing them. Three-dimensional torso scanning, individualised planning and postoperative corset use are components of the treatment process. Suitability, expected changes, risks and follow-up requirements are discussed during the individual assessment.

Slipping rib syndrome is another area of his clinical practice. Clinical examination and, when indicated, dynamic ultrasound are used to assess pain and mechanical symptoms associated with rib mobility. For patients requiring surgery, options aimed at stabilising the chest wall, including costal margin reconstruction, are considered.

Dr. Ersöz has maintained a private practice since 2022 and provides care to patients from Türkiye and other countries under the Dr. Pectus and Dr. Curver brands. Each assessment considers the patient’s symptoms, expectations and medical findings. Patients receive information about treatment options, potential risks, recovery and follow-up requirements.

He presents at national and international scientific meetings and continues his scientific work on pectus surgery, chest wall deformities and rib contouring.
